Online Learning
I read World Without Walls: Learning Well with Others, an article which argued that teachers need to make use of the highly interconnected techonological world.
The author says that the internet is perfect for leanrning, because anyone who wants to learn something or who wants to find someone with a similar interest can easily find them on the internet. The author also suggests that teachers need to learn how to safely use the internet for learning so that they can teach their students how to use the internet for self guided learning that can focus on whatever topic the student chooses.
In the article the author writes ,"Our ability to learn whatever we want, whenever we want, from whomever we want is rendering the linear, age-grouped, teacher-guided curriculum less and less relevant". I found this quote very interesting because I entirely agree with it.
I've always felt that in an age where you can instantly get the answer to any question you have, learning needs to be more oriented towards what you're actually interested in, and it needs to focus more on understanding the information that you've absorbed, rather than the focus being just on memorizing facts that could easily be found on the internet.
I was surprised to learn that even elementary school students are getting involved in online learning and networking. It's probably just because when I was in elementary school, it was much less common for small kids to really know how to use internet beyond games.
But, as the internet gains a wider and wider range of information, my prediction is that it will be more and more common for young kids to use the internet for networking, school, and entertainment.
I think the idea of interconnected learning is very good. It brings the technology that everyone these days relies on every day. It seems like a good idea to continue to use Diigo for articles about things we want to learn about, and to use our websites for reflections about things we've learned and to share ideas with other students.
I would love to learn more about story telling in movies, and script writing in general. I love to write, and I adore a good movie plot, so it only makes sense for me to want to learn more about script writing.
